Most of this series deals with the description of the construction of the First Temple and its impact on the Jewish people of its and later time. The haftorah of Ki Tisa recounts the struggle of the prophet Elijah against the rampant paganism that threatened to destroy Jewish life in the Northern Kingdom of Israel.
